CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN A SYSTEMIC KEY FOR TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT
On February 9th, we celebrated the first national meeting of industrial symbiosis projects; a meeting that aimed to initiate collaboration between the facilitators of the different urban-industrial symbiosis projects in Spain.
The meeting was held in person, sponsored by the Consorcio de la Zona Franca in one of its emblematic buildings dedicated to industrial sustainability: DFactory Barcelona.
Industrial symbiosis projects are emerging as an effective tool for applying circular economy concepts in the productive fabric of a territory. Through a systemic vision of this territory, manufacturing processes are analyzed as part of a broader framework, an “industrial ecosystem” framework, with resource management with an intersectoral approach: an agro-industrial-urban symbiosis in close collaboration with public authorities and society. The meeting helped us to get to know each other, to share experiences and tools, to identify common barriers and work to eliminate them; a gateway to facilitate greater connection between companies in Spain to develop business opportunities with surplus resources.
As a result of this meeting, a collection of industrial symbiosis projects has been made in the form of a “Catalog” Discover projects from different regions of Spain, their objectives and achievements, from the hand of their promoters!
