BIOCAFA
A project to promote new businesses and activate the post-nuclear economy in a rural area by leveraging local resources in La Fatarella. Three businesses are being developed based on different economic models: 1) a local energy community with shared self-consumption from rooftop photovoltaic systems, 2) sourcing woody biomass from forests and agricultural pruning, and 3) development of a bio-industrial park in Les Camposines.

Project Objectives
The project aims to create new businesses that boost employment and economic activity by using primary-sector resources with an energy focus (shared photovoltaic generation, biomass production, and new product activities for energy-independent bio-industrial parks).

Highlights
- The agricultural cooperative as manager of the energy community and as a potential biomass manager, ensuring the raw material supply for a bio-industrial park that could include a biomass logistics center, a biochar manufacturing facility, an olive-pomace drying facility for olive mills, renewable energy systems, and energy storage.
