Business Office to promote the energy transition in Manresa’s PAEs – OFIMATER

Project description

“Manresa Il·lumina” is the first energy community created among companies in an industrial estate, in this case the Bufalvent industrial estate in Manresa. Thanks to the ICAEN programme, services have been created and implemented to promote the growth and consolidation of this community and the energy transition of Manresa’s industry.

Four lines of action:

• Expand renewable energy generation.
• Expand the energy community with new members and new adhesions.
• Increase energy efficiency in the industries involved.
• Promote sustainable mobility as a balancing vector for photovoltaic generation.

Main results

Preliminary results, after 1 year of the project:

• 56% increase in the number of members of the Energy Community.
• Energy community extended to all industrial estates in Manresa.
• Increase of 1 MWp of energy generated in one year.
• 5% reduction, equivalent to 8,000 MWh, in the energy consumption of Manresa companies.
• 10% of Manresa companies with some type of investment to improve energy efficiency.
• 50 companies advised on energy efficiency, with more than 200 people attending training sessions.

Highlights

This initiative highlights that:

• It confirms the need for a support service for companies on their path towards renewable energy, providing the trust needed to make investments through data, figures, and affordable business model proposals.  
• The identification of alternative financing channels is highly useful, making them available to companies on an individual basis and helping them access these opportunities.
• “Manresa Il·lumina” has received several awards and has become an international success story, attracting industrial tourism to the area.
• “Manresa Il·lumina” is a project identified within the territorial development initiative “Manresa en Simbiosis”, a pilot industrial symbiosis project in Catalonia launched in 2015.
